BIO
I am Valentina, a physicist and an artist based in the Pacific Northwest.

I come from the sunny coast of Sicily (Italy), where I spent my childhood and obtained a BSc and MSc in physics. In 2014, I moved to Scotland for a PhD in applied physics and biophysics, working with optical tweezers Or like I called it somewhere on my blog, being a space pirate!
In the rainy days commuting to the university, I brushed off my old love for drawing and started practicing more intentionally.
In 2018,  I self-published Inking Science, an illustrated book at the interface between science and art. Since then, I built up the courage to call herself an artist and put my work into the world.
After a brief year in California, working as an instrumentation scientist at the Advanced Bioimaging Center at the University of Berkeley, I moved to Seattle, where I worked as a research scientist at a small company in the field of electro-optics modulation and fiber optics.
Today I am Sr. Optical Engineer in Amazon, working with optics and cameras.
When I am not doing science, I draw.
While I focus mostly on science-inspired art, I will gladly take on a project if it is about dark and moody illustrations.

If I have any free time left, I travel: I lived in 5 different countries and visited more than 20. I am always happy to relax cozying up with my cat Po, snuggling with my son Leto, playing board-games with my husband or discussing absurd ideas over a beer with friends and interesting new people.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Valentina believes that there is a beauty in science that can only be truly communicated through art. She hope that her work can help make that beauty accessible to everyone.

She has mostly worked with ink and digital illustrations, but she is currently exploring new painting media, like gouache, acrylics and oil.
